No training at Tilsley

We weren't expecting to be playing on Sunday and haven't booked Tilsley Park, so after Sunday's efforts we'll take a break.
See you all on Sunday for the last game of the season.

Game v Wantage date change

I've just heard from Wantage and they haven't enough players to make the Wednesday evening fixture.
We are proposing to change this to 2pm Sunday 5th May. Could players please let the management know they are available for the revised date before we confirm.

Update 8pm 29th April 2013
The game is confirmed to kick off at 2pm on Sunday 5th May at The Closes, details to follow.

CM v Kidlington Youth

28th April   away   result 1-2    half time 0-1
Scorer for CM Robbie Catling (2)

This promised to be the most important game of the season for both teams, a Cumnor win would mean they would be champions, a draw would mean Cumnor favourites with one game to play but a Kidlington victory would make them strong favourites for the title.
The game kicked off in blustery conditions with Kidlington winning the toss and electing to play against the wind and up the slight slope of the pitch.
Cumnor started the stronger of the two teams and were soon creating chances. The wind made it difficult to control the ball and many of Cumnor's long passes were going straight to the keeper or over the goal line.
Cumnor first goal came after 20 minutes when Jim Whitelock won the ball in midfield and played a great ball to Robbie who coolly stroked it past the keeper. The game evened out towards the end of the half but it finished with Cumnor one up.
Pete's half time talk praised the lads for their efforts and warned them as they were kicking against the wind in the second half to expect plenty of defensive work ahead.
The second half started well for Kidlington as they equalised in the first couple of minutes with a low shot from the left of the penalty area. This raised Kidlington's game and it was a well contested battle especially in midfield.
Robbie scored Cumnor's second after 55 minutes when a through ball from Jamie gave him the keeper to beat. He again confidently slotted the ball in the goal.
Kidlington were desperate for another equaliser which opened up the game. There was some good last ditch defending and a couple of great saves for Kane to maintain Cumnor's lead. Zak miraculously managed to scoop the ball off the line after a Kidlington corner when it seemed certain to go in the net.
Cumnor also created plenty of chances themselves with Cameron Craig desperately unlucky when his 20 yard lobbed shot seemed destined for goal only for the wind to blow it off course and hit the post. Jack Hitchen was unable to control the rebound and shot just wide.
The last 10 minutes were nerve wracking for Cumnor as Kidlington threw caution to the wind and played everyone forward. The defence held firm though and there were many cheers when the ref blew for full time.
There is no single man of the match for Cumnor as it was a great squad effort from all 16 players, possibly the best performance of the season under some pressure. Many thanks again to John Hitchen for running the line.
This result means Cumnor first place is assured and they go into the final game on Wednesday evening as champions.

Next game away to Kidlington Youth

We haven't heard from Kidlington so I guess it's at their usual ground, Orchard Rec. Evans Lane, OX5 2HX

CM v Kennington Athletic U16s Friendly

21st April   Away   result 1-2   half time 0-1
Scorers for CM   Conrad Deer   Cameron Craig

This was a quickly arranged game following a gap in the fixtures for Cumnor due to Grove Rangers' withdrawing from the league. Kennington Athletic are a decent A league team so it promised to be a good match.
It started brightly in sunny spring conditions although the dry pitch meant the ball was awkward to control at times.
Both teams played some good football and there was chances at either end. Conrad eventually scored for Cumnor after 30 minutes going straight through on goal.
This meant the half finished 1-0. Pete's half time talk reminded the midfield to keep it tight and for the striker to concentrate playing in the centre of the pitch rather than drifting to the wings.
The second half progressed with Cumnor gradually getting on top and they were rewarded with a well taken goal from the left of the penalty area by Cameron Craig after 70 minutes.
Kennington fought back well and got a deserved goal with the last kick of the game.

It was a well played game in good spirits and many thanks to Sam Byrne for organising the hosting of it all. I thought both referees were excellent, particularly the one in the first half.

We have a friendly!

We've arranged a friendly this Sunday 21st April at Kenningotn U16s, kick off Midday. Could players be on the pitch ready to warm up by 11.30am. The ground is Playfield Road, Kennington OX1 5RT.

Training at Tilsley

We are training at 7pm on Thursday 18th April at Tilsley Park.
There's no game on Sunday but we may hold a practice game. Details to follow.

CM v Hinksey Park

14th April    Away   result 4-0   half time 3-0

It was a sunny spring day at Hinksey Park although there was a blustery wind.
Hinksey kicked off with the wind behind them and it soon settled into an fairly even contest with both teams getting early chances.
Hinksey scored first after 15 minutes with a shot through the middle. This  spurred them them on and they added a second 15 minutes later with a shot from the right of the penalty area. Cumnor battled hard but it was Hinksey who played better in the conditions and they added a third shortly before half time. This meant the half ended 3-0.
Pete's half time talk reminded them the game was not lost and playing with the wind would give us chances to get back into it.
This was not to be and Hinksey were playing well with confidence whilst Cumnor struggled to get their game going. Cumnor created chances, hitting the post and going just wide a few times but Hinksey also had chances themselves and Westy saved goals on two occasions by scrambling the ball off the line with one being a miraculous hooked kick. Hinksey added to Cumnor's woes with a breakaway goal after 82 minutes meaning the game ended 4-0.
Hinksey Park  are a much improved side and although Cumnor didn't play well on the day Hinksey thoroughly deserved their win.
Cumnor Man of the Match goes to Westy who did a great job working tirelessly down the right the whole game. Many thanks to John Hitchen for running the line.

If Cumnor's loss at Ducklington was a wake up call but this was a punch in the face and it has really opened up the league. It's going to be an interesting end to the season!

Game away to Hinksey Park

Our next game is away to Hinksey Park on Sunday 12th April with a 2pm kick.
It's at Grandpont Recreation Ground on Whitehouse Road, off Abingdon Road, OX1 4QH. Players to be on the pitch ready to warm up by 1.30pm, I don't think there are any changing facilities at the ground.
There will be lifts available at 1.10pm from Elms Parade. It promises to be the warmest day of the year so we are expecting plenty of supporters for this game.

Grove Rangers withdrawn

Grove Rangers have withdrawn from the league so our fixture on the 21st April is cancelled. It also unfortunately means our 6-2 victory at The Closes is removed from the league records.

Training on Thursday

We are training at 7pm on Thursday 11th April at the much loved Tilsley Park

This is ahead of our next game away to Hinksey Park scheduled for 2pm kick off at Grandpont Recreation Ground on Whitehouse Road, OX1 4QH
