Training on Thursday at Tilsley - OFF

We are booked to train on Thursday 21st at Tilsley but I appreciate that being quite close to Christmas there are some who cant make it, so we've made it voluntary. Please let us know if you want to train by text or email. A simple yes or no will be fine and if we get around 12 or so we'll hold the session.

Update 8am Thursday 20th
The appalling weather means nothing will be gained by training tonight so it's called off.
Merry Christmas everybody!

CM v St Edmunds

16th December   home  result 0-6  half time  0-2

This was a Berks and Bucks County Cup game played in spring-like sunny weather although the pitch was rather soft thanks to the recent rain. It was an important cup game but for a variety of reasons Cumnor had only 11 players available for the match.
It started off tightly with both teams playing some good football although St Edmunds created slightly more of the chances. They broke the deadlock at 25 minutes with a snap shot from the edge of the penalty area low to Kane's right.
Cumnor were dealt with a further blow after 30 minutes when Robbie limped off the pitch with a bad knock to his knee and was unable to take further part in the game. They battled on but with one minute left in the half they conceded a second goal from a corner.
Pete's second half talk told the players to keep it tight in the midfield and defence with just one up front as they were down to 10 men following Robbie's injury.
The second half began with St Edmunds on top although Pete's advice worked well as it wasn't until the 58th minute that St Edmunds scored their third from a corner. Cumnor's legs tired and St Edmunds took advantage with three goals in quick succession, one following a mix up in Cumnor's goal area, another a speculative looping shot on the edge of the penalty area, and a third was a direct header from a corner.
St Edumunds are currently top of the A league, winning every game, so it promised to be a tough game and they deserved their win. Cumnor made it more difficult for themselves with only 11 available and playing with 10 for much of the game.
All Cumnor players should be pleased with the way they battled throughout and when the result was in no doubt they didn't allow their heads to drop. Even Kane managed a shot on goal in the dying minutes. Man of the Match goes to Westy for his determined and consistent efforts.

CM v Banbury United

9th December   away   result 1-4   half time 1-2
Scorers for CM: Jamie Smith  Jack Hitchen (2)  Jake Gerring

The game was played on a cold but sunny day with Cumnor playing the first half with a stiff breeze behind them.
Cumnor had much of the early possession but they were unable to score with virtually all forwards and midfield players missing chances of various degrees of difficulty. Eventually Jamie Smith opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a well taken shot 20 yards out on the left.
Ironically this seemed to spur on Banbury and they played some of their best football of the match. They were rewarded with a goal after 28 minutes from a shot in the penalty area low to Kane’s left giving him no chance.
Jack Hitchen restored Cumnor’s advantage with a great shot 15 yards from an Obaida Mohamedi pass. This meant the half finished 1-2
Pete's half time talk asked for more effort from the players in the second half and to try to play the simple passes. He also reminded them that Banbury would be pleased with their first half performance and warned them to expect some long balls from them as they were playing with the wind in the second half.
The talk did the job as it’s fair to say Cumnor dominated the second half but Banbury were resilient in defence. It took until 70 minutes before Cumnor added to their lead with a sweetly taken shot by Jake Gerring from around the penalty spot.
Jack Hitchen got his second goal and Cumnor’s fourth after 75 minutes with a opportunist strike 5 yards out as Banbury started let their heads drop.
Banbury were probably the more relieved to here the final whistle as Cumnor were beginning to look like adding to the score line. Banbury should be pleased with the effort they made today, they had a couple of chances to draw level at 2-1 and defended well. I thought their goalkeeper had a great match.
Cumnor dominated the game and played some really good football in patches but struggled to deal with the conditions. It was a boggy pitch particularly down the centre and the wind didn’t help. Considering the relative league positions of the clubs Cumnor were expected to win comfortably but Banbury, judging by today’s performance are not a bad side.
Today’s Match of the Match goes to Jack Hitchen for his good work in midfield and the two well taken goals
