CM v Harwell & Hendred

OIYL Cup 20th November 2011 Result 1-2

CM scorer Robbie Catling

What a difference a week makes!
After a disappointing display the week before we faced a daunting cup game against A League team Harwell & Hendred.
We started tentatively, getting rid of the ball rather too quickly but as the half wore on we began to get into our stride. H&H were a well organised, skilful side and eventually scored following a low cross to the box. We had one two chances but none converted, so the half finished 0-1.
The second half started well and we created opportunities to equalise but H&H went two up with a strong shot directly from a free kick just outside the penalty area. We did well to battle on rather than lose heart and pulled one back with an opportunist goal from Robbie Catling.
This gave the team extra spirit and we strived to get the elusive equaliser in the remaining 15 minutes. It was not to be and it was H&H who were relieved to hear the final whistle.
Man of the Match as voted by the spectators and management was Daniel 'Westy' West who had a great game at right back. Special mention to Connor Penfold who again made some great saves and good desicions to keep us in the game. Ben Whitehead and Jim Whitelock did really well in central defence and on another day Conrad would have got a couple, but luck was not on his side .
Thanks again to Nick Penfold for doing an excellent job running the line.
It was an excellent performance and all should be proud of themselves. This display should give us great confidence for the remaining league games.

It's a big game against an A league side but we must have a chance to cause an upset.
Please all make this game so the team has a good shot at getting a decent result.

Training on Tuesday

A reminder we are training as usual on Tuesday 7pm at Fogwell Road.

This may be little consolation for the loss on Sunday, but we got an excellent report from the referee for the spirit and attitude in which the game was played. So well done to all for that, it's a credit to the team.

CM v Northway

13th November 2011 Result 0-7

After last week's exciting game it was back to earth with a bump with a 0-7 defeat against top of the table Radley Youth. Radley are very well organised side with plenty of ability throughout the team and it's not surprising they are clear at the top. We battled well in the first half but let in a couple of soft goals (and one good one) to go in half 3-0 down.
At half time all was not lost and we felt we could at least make it a respectable score, but we let in another soft goal in the first minute of the second half. This meant heads started to drop and undestandably legs got tired. Radley took advantage and ran in easy winners. We did create a couple of good chances but their keeper was also pretty good.
Despite the scoreline our Man of the Match was keeper, Connor Penfold, who made some spectacular saves and could have done little about the goals that went it.
Many thanks to Nick Penfold for running the line and making some good desicions in a game where he was kept pretty busy.
Other results went our way so we are now third on goal difference. It's going to be an interesting next couple on months as there are several teams going for second place.

CM v Radley Youth pt 2

Ok folks, this is how I remember the game against Radley. It's probably littered with errors.

An incredible game saw Cumnor win 7-5 to take 2nd place in the league.
Cumnor took the lead after 10 minutes with a well taken shot from Ben Everley but Radley equalised 10 minutes later.
Radley then took the lead, but Cumnor equalised with an opportunistic 2nd goal from Ben Everley.
A great header from Ben Whitehead restored Cumnor's advantage but Radley equalised again soon after.
This meant the score at half time was 3-3.
Cumnor scored straight from the second half kick off with a great strike by Joff Stimpson, but Radley equalised yet again to make it 4-4.
A well taken shot from Robbie Catling made it 5-4 to Cumnor and Joff increased the lead to 6-4 following an unselfish cut back in front of goal by Jamie Smith.
Radley then scored from a penalty to make it 6-5 with 7 minutes to go.
An amazing save by keeper Connor Penfold when Radley were clean through preserved Cumnor's lead when Radley looked certain to score.
Cumnor supporters' nerves were eased when Jamie Smith got his well deserved goal from the penalty spot after being fouled himself in the area to make it 7-5 in the final minute.
It was probably one of the more exciting games you are likely to see in youth football, especially when you consider in the previous 5 games Radley had conceded an average of 3 goals per game and Cumnor less than 2.
The ref got it right afterwards when he remarked "What a crazy game - brilliant!"

CM Man of the Match - it genuinely could have been anybody but the award goes to Robbie Catling for his great goal and strong play especially in the second half.
