Cumnor won the toss and elected to play against the wind. Summertown created the first chance after three minutes but Cumnor keeper, Kane, saved a point blank shot from their number 7.
Cumnor began to get on top and striker, Mitchell, scored an opportunist goal after seven minutes to put them one up. Jim Whitelock added a second after 15 minutes when he slotted the home from just inside the penalty area. Cumnor’s lead increased to three after 30 minutes when Mitchell was upended in the penalty area. He look the penalty himself and cooly slotted it low to the keeper’s right
There were many chances created both ends with Jack Hitchen going close and a Ben Whitehead header that crashed against the underside of the crossbar for Cumnor.
The first half finished 3-0 to Cumnor.
The second half began promisingly for Cumnor with the wind but it was Summertown who pegged a goal back after 57 minutes when they broke from the right and Aidun Robbins scored at close range.
There were many chances throughout the rest of the second half but neither team could score so the game finished 3-1 to Cumnor.
It was a well fought battle and even included a 5 minute hailstorm that caused havoc in the first half. Cumnor deserved their win but both sides must be disappointed with their missed chances.
