1st December 2013 away result 5-1 half time 2-0
Scorer for CM Robbie Catling
The game kicked off in overcast weather with virtually no wind and the pitch was in reasonable condition.
It was fast paced for the first period with both teams creating chances. Zak did well to beat a defender when put through by a long ball from Jack Hitchen but his shot went just wide. Kane, playing for the first time on pitch instead of in goal, tried a great volley 20 yards out but that also went just wide.
It was Hook Norton who broke the deadlock after 20 minutes with an opportunistic goal 5 yards out.
They doubled their lead 10 minutes later with a shot from the centre spot just going inside the right hand post.
This meant the half finished 2-0. Pete's half time talk reminded the players they created more chances than Hook Norton and were still in the game.
Unfortunately it was Hook Norton who further increased their lead after 60 minutes following a defensive mix up.
Cumnor's hopes were raised after 73 minute when Robbie pulled one back from about a yard out after Jack Hitchen's close range shot was stopped on the line. These hopes were soon soon snuffed out with a fourth goal for Hooky. Cumnor's defence was in disarray and they let in a fifth after 80 minutes. Fortunately Cumnor managed to steady the ship and the game finished 5-1 to Hook Norton.
It was a game to forget for Cumnor, a below par performance and some uncharacteristic poor defending. Hook Norton were the better, more organised, team and deserved their win.
Amongst it all there was some good performances for Cumnor, Zak worked hard at front chasing down everything, Jack Hitchen and Kane played well in midfield and Robbie got yet another goal.
Cameron Craig gets man of the match for running tirelessly throughout against a good and occasionally combative defence.
